Arapahoe, Nebraska

Glenn Ervin Hinton, age 83, of Arapahoe, Nebraska died on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at his home. He was born on April 3, 1928 in Frontier County, Nebraska to Bert & Vera (Harrop) Hinton.

He went to school thru the 8th grade at Walnut Hill country school, then attended 2 years at Stockville High School, at Stockville, Nebraska. The family would move to Douglas, Wyoming and he would graduated from Douglas High School. After high school he worked for a couple years on a ranch before joining the service in 1950. He served in the U.S.  Navy until 1953. After the service, he came back to work at Curtis, Nebraska at the Frontier County Soil Conservation Office. On June 9, 1957 he married Roberta J. Utterback at Orafino, Nebraska. He would become a mail carrier on January 7, 1961 at Stockville, Nebraska. He carried mail for 31 years at Curtis, Cambridge, & Wilsonville, Nebraska. His last route in Wilsonville when he retired was 152 miles, the longest route in the state at that time. They moved to Arapahoe, Nebraska in 1978 and later to Prairie Pines apartments in Arapahoe in 2011.

Glenn loved writing poetry and especially enjoyed writing about horses, the land, and God. He gave many programs to different groups in the area and always enjoyed telling a good story. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe, American Legion Post #343 of Edison, Nebraska, Rural Mail Carriers Association, & the Nebraska Square Dancers Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Brett Thomas Hinton, infant brother Wayne C. Hinton, sisters Roberta Dunn & June Arent, Brother-In-Laws; Paul, Gerald, & James Utterback, Charles Walker, Melvin Dunn, Ted Arent, Sister-In-Law Elsa Darleen Utterback.

He is survived by his wife Roberta Hinton of Arapahoe, Nebraska

                       daughter: Becki Hinton of Pueblo West, Colorado

                      brothers: Tedd Hinton & wife Darlene of Colorado Springs, Colorado

                                    Joe Hinton & wife LaVonne of Willows, California

                                    Jack Hinton & wife Alice of Thorton, Colorado

                        sister:  Ruth Johnson of Ogallala, Nebraska

    2 grandchildren: Derek Kyle & Hunter Ryan Bridgeman of Pueblo West, Colorado

   & several nieces and nephews

Viewing and  visitation will be Thursday, April 28, 2011 from 9 AM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, Arapahoe, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Friday, April 29, 2011 at 10 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska with Rev. Michael Flury and Raymond Durner, officiating. Burial will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska with military rites given by the American Legion Post #343 of Edison, Nebraska. Wenburg Funeral Home of Arapahoe, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
