Jerry Jay Flanagan, age 79, of Beaver City, Nebraska died at his son’s home of rural Oxford, Nebraska after a brief battle with Lung Cancer. Jerry was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Ann (Danielson) and Lawrence Flanagan.

He lived in many places; California, Minnesota, Alaska (Army), Washington, Marshal Islands, and Nebraska. He is now free of all earthly constraints including his lifelong love affair with nicotine. Cigarettes were his passion, they calmed him, they were killing him, but he wouldn’t give them up.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Floyd Bentson; brother Larry; grandchildren Danny & Robbie Downie.

He is survived by his children: Dan Flanagan (Karen), Kelly Dennis (Randy), Cathy Flanagan & Kori Maldonato (Gary); the mothers of his children: Beverly & Rita; granddaughters Alicia & Heather; Great Grandson Kevin; siblings Susan Midtvedt & Greg Bentson; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins.

Jerry was gifted with a beautiful singing voice; he played guitar, bass fiddle and the ukulele. Jerry retired from the aircraft industry, working many years for Boeing and McDonnell Douglas. In retirement he spent many happy days chasing a little white ball at the Arapahoe Golf Course. The family would like to thank the special staff at the plaza for making his last years so safe and comfortable. The Beaver City Manor and Assisted Living and the Meals on Wheels program for its compassionate and caring service. Also Asera Care for their heartfelt assistance during his final days in hospice.
