Arapahoe, Nebraska

Roy Dale “John” Girch, age 87, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at the Cambridge Hospital, in Cambridge, Nebraska.   He was born in Arapahoe, Nebraska on October 27, 1927 to Vernon & Helen (Mills) .

He attended school and graduated from Arapahoe High School with the Class of 1945. While attending high school he was out for football, basketball, and track all four years. He enlisted in the Navy and spent twenty months in China until being honorably discharged in 1948. He worked different jobs till 1955 at which time he started his own business called “Arapahoe Body Shop” and operated it for 48 years and semi-retired in 1991.

He was a member of the Arapahoe Fire Department for 12 years and member of Peace Lutheran Church until it disbanded at which he became a member of the First United Methodist Church, in Arapahoe, Nebraska.

He enjoyed lending a helping hand to anyone. He was an avid bowler and participated in League Bowling for Fritz Flying Service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, with an annual Thanksgiving tradition to hunt in route to dinner in the earlier years. Nothing was broken that he couldn’t fix. He repurposed things before the rest of the world started recycling. His garden and fruit trees were his pride and joy.
