James LaVern Smith, age 60, of Beaver City, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at his home. He was born on December 3, 1955 at Norton, Kansas to Vern & Carol (Martin) Smith.
Jim grew up at Hendley, Nebraska and attended elementary school at Hendley. He went to high school for 3 years in Beaver City before graduating from Wilsonville High School at Wilsonville, Nebraska with the Class of 1974. He entered the US Army and spent much of his time serving in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1980. He returned to Kearney, Nebraska and was employed with UPS. He worked there for 30 years before retiring in 2010. He married Katherine Kier and to this marriage 4 children were born; Ashley, Jayme, Dani, & Jordan. He would move back to Beaver City, Nebraska in 2012.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and all around outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He took Jordan to many wrestling meets in the Midwest and loved to collect guns.
Jim is survived by his daughters; Jayme Weber and husband Justin of Kearney, Nebraska, Dani Trew and husband Chuck of Kearney, Nebraska, Ashley Cook and husband Neil of Eugene, Oregon, son; Jordan Smith of Kearney, Nebraska, mother; Carol Smith of Beaver City, Nebraska brother Jerry Smith of Hendley, Nebraska, sisters; Sue Riley and husband Bob of Holton, Kansas, Toni Hardenbrook and husband Ray of Axtell, Nebraska, Terri Martin of Beaver City, Nebraska, Joyce Smith of Beaver City, Nebraska, & Cheryl Buss of Beaver City, Nebraska, 6 Grandchildren Clelia, Gavin, Isaac, Paige, Maddyx, and Dylan.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Vern, sister Mary Brox, brother-in-law David Buss, and nephew Landon Smith

Viewing and visitation will be Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 2 PM till 8 PM at Wenburg Funeral Home, Beaver City, Nebraska and prior to the services at the church. Funeral services will be Monday, March 28, 2016 at 2 PM at the Faith Community Church in Beaver City, Nebraska, officiated by Bill Weaver. Interment will be at the Hendley Cemetery, in Hendley, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the Parkinsonís Research Foundation at parkinsonhope.org.
